Natural deodorants, based on essential oils or alum stone, eliminate bad odor without disturbing the balance of the skin. And most importantly: they avoid exposure to harmful chemicals, very present in conventional deodorants.
From the heat, the physical exertion or even the emotional stress, everyone knows what it is like to sweat more than necessary one day and the unpleasant consequences it can have. The deodorants can reduce sweat and discomfort, but you have to pay attention to its components, it can be harmful to health.
Sweat is a secretion of water with suspended electrolytes and fatty acids that removes waste substances and helps regulate body temperature.
When fresh, it only smells if you remove some type of metabolite, such as B vitamins, or if you have drunk alcohol or foods that release allyl, such as onion or garlic.
The secreted by the apocrine glands – those that appear after puberty in the armpits and genitals – can also be degraded by the action of the saprophytic bacteria that live on the skin and that break it down to form substances with a strong odor, such as butyric and valerian acid, mercaptans, amines and ammonia.
FIRST OF ALL, AVOID SWEATING EXCESSIVELY
A first strategy to avoid the consequences of sweating is to try to reduce it when it is excessive. Showering daily is essential, but, paradoxically, excess soap in the armpits can cause a rebound effect, so its use should be limited to once a day. If it is necessary to wash a second time, it is advisable to do it only with water.
Perspiration is reduced in turn by shaving the underarm area, avoiding wearing tight garments and trying not to overcoat.
HOW TO CHOOSE A GOOD NATURAL DEODORANT
These are the reasons why it is essential to choose your deodorant well: the size of the pores in the armpit allows toxins to pass through and the proximity of the lymph nodes facilitates the spread of damage throughout the body.
There are two types of deodorants: those that reduce perspiration and those that attack the bacteria responsible for the bad smell.
Its mineral salts inflame the sweat channel so that it closes and does not eliminate so much sweat.
In natural deodorants the used alum (potassium alum), very effective and safe. It does not close the pores completely and creates a film on the skin that prevents bacterial growth.
In deodorants synthesis the used aluminum chloralhydrate. This salt can form aluminates, which can react with female estrogens, and has been linked to breast cancer.
They seek to eradicate bacteria that break down sweat without eliminating perspiration.
In conventional cosmetics they are used halogenated as triclosan, the most frequent. It should be avoided, as it acts as a hormonal disruptor and does not respect the beneficial saprophytic flora of the human body. Nor is it advisable from an environmental perspective: being very chemically stable it is not destroyed and reaches rivers and oceans, where it represents a serious ecological problem.
In natural cosmetics, antiseptic essential oils, such as sage or rosemary, or other regulatory substances, such as certain yeasts, are usually used. Essential oils not only reduce troublesome bacteria, but also add your good smell. In addition, a hydro alcoholic solution is usually included that favors the synergy of ingredients and increases efficiency.
Choosing a natural deodorant is therefore as effective an option as conventional synthetic deodorants and also safer and more environmentally friendly.
